As an amateur game designer, I follow the famous Mark Brown. He’s the go-to game designer for newbies in the subject matter. Anyways, he read and recommends this book. After reading it, I definitely feel I gained new perspectives and a better understanding to game design in general. Now I just need to apply it in real life!

Fantastic book. This book feels like it is for games what Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud is for comics. It offers a very high level, holistic examination of a medium & how it works. It's like a peek at the Platonic ideal of "game."

I am still reading it but so far, it's so good. It is to the point, it doesn't rant forever. It doesn't go off track. I think it could be used as a good text book for game design class. One of my favorite books in game design.

Although I have 3 published designs and have worked on dozens of other games, Anna Anthropy’s chapters made me feel like I know nothing about game design. In other words, it was challenging, which is a good thing. The latter part of the book, by Naomi Clark, was a little closer to my experience but still instructional.Requiring Windows to do some of the exercises was a turn-off, especially since I was reading on an iPad.

Although there are some interesting points about game design brought up within; the unfocused and rambling examples of crude and simple games detracts from it's overall intent. I'm 4 chapters in and debating whether it's worth my time to continue reading it.

This is a review of the Kindle edition. The Kindle Edition contains numerous formatting errors and needs major editing or re-formatting. For example, in middle of the directions of one recipe is an ingredient list for a different (unidentifed) recipe. Conversely, there are multiple recipes missing ingredients. Very confusing and the worst part is that you don't get the complete cookbook as there are so many defective recipes. Needs major proofreading and editing!

My greatly anticipated book arrived today. After looking at the online kindle version, I was excited to get the cook book because I've been looking for a really excellent biscuit recipe. There are many recipes in the book I look forward to trying, including the biscuit recipes that are shown. However, the recipe for the biscuits that everyone raves about is only mentioned in a two-page story about the woman who "holds the biscuit recipe" but no recipe. This was disappointing but I'll still enjoy having the excellent cookbook.

Found this gem of a cookbook while on vacation in TN. However instead of lugging it back in my luggage - I ordered it here on Amazon and got it for cheaper than the gift stores sell it for. The recipes are from all over TN and sound so good. Many of them that remind me of stuff my Grandmama would make. Some down home good Southern stick to your ribs kind of food. I love how it’s recipes from actual restaurants that I’ve eaten at/seen. A great addition to any cook’s cookbook library.

The recipes were all mixed up or combined. Pages out of order. Nice history of the restaurant. Would like to visit

Ingredients for peach preserves and chicken salad are co- mingled, as are other recipes. Some recipes do not have ingredients with the recipe; others do not have a title. I could not recommend this book until the formatting issues are resolved.

I saw this book before I purchased it. Some friends had gone to Loveless Cafe and eaten there. They raved about the food. After seeing the book, I was happy to find it on Amazon. I was pleased with the promptness of the order as well as the book. The recipes are pretty simple. Just simple, good, down home cooking.

If you're looking for the famous biscuit recipe, you won't find it. But you don't have to buy the book to figure that one out. Just peruse the index/t.o.c prior to purchase to see the recipes offered in round two of the Loveless Cafe.I have the first Loveless Cafe cookbook, from when it was featured on Discovery Daytime 5 or 6 years ago. The lasagna recipe is excellent. From the second cookbook, I've tried the mashed potatoes & macaroni & cheese recipes.... also excellent. However for a family of 4 (such as ours), you're best suited to cut both recipes in half unless you're planning to feed an army. I served half of each recipe for dinner, and had to place the other halves in the freezer for later meals.PS: In reading the other posts, I seriously doubt there's Gin in the biscuit recipe. Buttermilk is usually the secret ingredient which lends biscuits that 'kick in the background'. The previous best-guess-recipe is missing lard. My best guess for the secret biscuit recipe includes flour, baking powder, salt, crisco from the can, buttermilk, & melted butter.

Love the recipes!! I received my book without any problems!

One of those books that are illuminating and beautifully written. I was looking for introduction to the history of religion that maps the scene and to give an all over view, it delivers that in an intriguing way ! The structure is not exactly linear nor by a separate treatment of each religion, but like the author put it is more of a "zigzag "one. This structure succeeded in integrating a complex subject into one coherent and encompassing overview. The audio format is well narrated and has a soothing effect.

I really liked this book. It's an objective look at religion on a whole. The author's opinion comes through at times and I welcome it. His views are refreshing. Overall very good book.

Taken on its own terms, this is a fascinating and informative book. Holloway is knowledgeable, witty and insightful and especially makes the sometimes complex history of Christianity accessible and understandable to the general reader.The one weakness the book has it that it gives generally short shrift to the great systems of belief originating in East and South Asia, mentioning most either superficially or not at all, and makes only the most feeble attempts to link them to parallel developments in Christianity, Judaism and Islam (as scholars like Karen Armstrong do). The best defense of Holloway, of course, is that if one does include discussions and analysis of Asian belief systems, such discussions inevitably lead to the undermining of the West's traditional definitions of religion itself. That said, the book is still a valuable read to those interested in the subject of religious history.

I just wanted a well-done, readable history of religion. Something I could read in bed at night like a novel and not have to plow my way through turgid, jargon-laden prose. Guy seems to know his stuff and writes in an accessible and even at times humorous way.

Very good, informative, educational read about the history of Christianity. But too few accounts on other religions.

Fascinating and informative.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, and loved learning about world religions other than my own. I'm giving it three stars, however, because there is one religion I am very familiar with--Catholicism. And in this work, Holloway focuses mainly on the Catholic Church's negative contributions to human history, and none of the positives. No mention of the Catholic Church introducing hospitals, orphanages or formal education to the human experience. No mention of charity whatsoever. All vice and no virtue. So since his perspective of the one religion I knew about seemed so unbalanced, it made me question the balance regarding all the other religions as well, causing me to read the whole thing with at least two grains of salt. I do recommend reading this book, just bring your salt shaker with you.

This book was better written than the last one. Tho story line was thought out better and the characters better described. Cully needs to quit smoking as it could mean his demise if fire and smoke are spotted. When I was a young soldier I read many Zane Gray books and Orris Slade has the potential to become another great western writer. I have enjoyed the first four books greatly and am looking forward to number five. Good writing in the future Orris.

The entire Cully series are short, easy to read, fun filled adventures. Read them all. A good "no brain" book as my wife's says. We had some snow for a couple of days and I read all 4 books. Please write more of these.

I enjoy short stories that can take the project all the way through from conception to completion well written very well thought up without redundancies definitely a winner, N

Good read, fun and active. I am enjoying the character, Cully, more and more. I will keep on reading these books and see how it goes.

I read all 4 books about Cully the Bounty Hunter and really enjoyed them. I hope Mr. Slide continues this series on a regular basis.
