Ultimate Dinopedia is a good book, but it borrows most of its material from National Geographics' "Dinosaurs" and "Little kids' first big book of dinosaurs". It also lacks the timeline sidebar that "Dinosaurs" has and is so useful in picturing and remembering the time period when a dinosaur lived.Another problem with this book is its binding: pages tear apart whole easily from the book. Kids are not particularly careful while turning a page and, quite often with this book, end up with the whole page in their hands (not ripping it, just that the page pulls loose easily).I would buy "Dinosaur" from National Geographic instead.
My 7 year old kid liked it very much. The book is well organized and teaches the kids many different kinds of Dinos. The kids like the colored pages of the book.We received the book a week earlier than the initial delivery date in good condition. The book is divided into four part. part one deals with discovering dinosaurs. part two deals with flying dinosaurs part three deals with land dinosaurs and part four is dino dictionary. The dictionary gives name with pronunciation, meaning of the name, geological age, where they were found, physical length and to which dino group it belongs. Each part had different color theme so that its easy to look and say which part begins from where just by looking into the bookPart two and three begins with dino family and then each page tells facts about any one dino in a small box in one page with little description for young readers and opposite page contains picture of that dino.My kid was very happy to have this book. The hardback is perfect so that my other little one can use it too when its her time in sha Allah.
My 6 year old son received this for his birthday. He absolutely loves it. The cover did not hold up to his young, boisterous energy, but thank goodness for the hard cover. My 10 year old and I have even read it, lots of good, up-to-date facts, pictures, data. If you have a dino fan in the family, this is a great buy.
I was debating between this book and "Dinosaur!: Dinosaurs and Other Amazing Prehistoric Creatures as You've Never Seen Them Befo (Knowledge Encyclopedias)" which is found also here on Amazon. I opted for this one because it looked just as interesting, and was slightly less costly. When it arrived I was sure it would be a hit but ironically it wasn't, and furthermore the next day my son came home from the library with the other book I had passed over and proceeded to read that one, ignoring his new book I had just gotten for him! go figure. That being said I don't know why he didn't like this one as well and he couldn't really give me a good explanation either...This book is really well done, had a lot of great photos and information but maybe you might consider the other book knowing what my experience was. Still, I can't give it a bad review because it's a great book!
Editing my review (and downgrading the rating to 4/5) to mention that the book is totally falling apart after less than 2 months of use. This quality is just unacceptable - the pages from the middle are detached from the binding, and the spine is basically useless for holding the cover on. The inside cover is ripping apart. My kid is not the most gentle creature on the planet, but no other book has fallen apart like this.I bought this for my 4yo for Christmas, and he is totally obsessed with it. He originally had the "Little Kids" version, but he likes this one so much better. It has a lot more information and is grouped according to family instead of size. The pictures are beautifully illustrated, albeit some of them might be slightly graphic for a sensitive little kid (dinos killing other dinos, bright red teeth and shreds of flesh, etc). But overall a truly fantastic book that I would recommend for any little dino lover.
I bought this for my six year old nephew for his birthday, and he is ALWAYS telling me about the things he reads about dinosaurs in his Dinopedia! He won't travel without it! I have seen many pictures of him reading it to his younger sister, and falling asleep reading it. The pictures are brilliant and the content is really interesting for the six year old and everybody else in our house (ages from two to fifty two!) I highly recommend it for anybody, especially children interested in dinosaurs! Definitely a great buy!
Nice & informative. My 4 yo is a dino fanatic and this will be great for him for years to come. I wish there was a better way to look up specific dinosaur names- the catalog in the back groups them together with similar dinosaurs, so you can't look up individual dinosaurs that way very easily. The pics are good though and the info is detailed.
My 2.5 year old is obsessed with dinosaurs "roars" and we take this book everywhere. Yes the reading is above his level but he listens anyway so it is a total win.
