This book leans heavily upon a third-party website against which the author expects the user to perform much of the testing. This website is a demo for a paid commercial application. The author doesn't have control of that website, and it's since been placed behind a registration wall. (Presumably because they were suddenly getting tons of Selenium traffic from people that'd purchased this book.)As a result, the first half of the book (where the bulk of the test-writing is explained) is all-but useless.
Good book
This book is very thorough, without it I could not have created a web scraper script that automates downloads of hundreds of files.
This is really only half a book. The author lists many of the selenium functions then presents them in a very limited scope. He will refer you to a website(s) where the real documentation lives. For example, on page 58, the discussion of XPath says to the reader "To know more about XPath, visit..." giving several websites. The book then proceeds to provide one, very narrow XPath example and never discusses some of the more interesting and pertinant XPath options.The book would have been much better off listing all the Selenium functions on one page then referencing the website where you can learn more. Of course nobody would buy such a book.
I needed to pick up some automated testing skills quickly. Selenium is an awesome tool, but some of the minutiae can really slow you down.So far, I'm about 20% into the book and it's already allowed me to quickly add the Chrome browser to my testing portfolio.Concise, and very practical, as long as you are, at minimum, an advanced beginner with just a little understanding of python and selenium you can teach yourself some invaluable skills quickly.I'm apt to correct myself, so if I don't update this with a correction you can assume the last 80% is just as good.
This is a great guidebook for learning about Testing in general, though even for the more experienced QA and Testing Professional, there willl still be some nice tricks to add to your arsenal. If you are coming from using Selenium with Java, the book can help you start using Selenium via Python, which in my personal opinion, is much clearer.There are plenty of Python examples, helpful diagrams, and the tempo of the book is perfect.After a few chapters, I was able to write a few automatic tasks for a web-based Administration tool I'm responsible for. You have many of the API or class methods listed in their appropriate chapter, which is great for referencing even after you finish the book.Overall, if you want to take your Python skills to start doing some great Web Automation, this is the book to go with.
This book offers a great introduction to using Selenium Webdriver to test web applications in Python. It introduces the basic concepts of web object location and page navigation, of browser-agnostic test code and of selenium grid. Towards the latter part of the book, the author introduces more advanced concepts of webdriver testing on mobile devices using Appium and how to automate testing with Continuous Integration using Jenkins. I found the book easy to follow and a quick read. My only nit with the book is that the sample code requires a little debugging, but otherwise I think it's a great introduction to webdriver concepts for engineers starting out in the field.
This is the perfect book for someone who start with selenium using python.All the fundamentals are very well explain. This book is the best way to getstarted quickly and correctly.The way to find and wait for elements in the DOM is very well explained.I wish I had a book like this one when I started 2 years ago!
