Review
"As I mentor younger men I always have them read On the Edge. The story is engaging, the theology is solid, and the applied truth of the Gospel is brilliantly unveiled in this excellent, relevant book." - Regi Campbell, Radical Mentoring                                   "When I got back from vacation I ordered 25 copies and have been giving them away to my friends.  It should be required reading for our generation." - Rev. John Yates, The Falls Church"For years I have been teaching discernment and critical thinking and never have I come across a work of fiction which so effectively helps to develop these faculties as On The Edge." - Ted Baehr, Movieguide"On The Edge is a rare jewel for fans of Frank Peretti. Not since This Present Darkness, have I come across such an in-depth work exposing the spiritual forces and invisible battle we all must face." - John L. Owens

From the Author
On The Edge is the story of how God changes lives. In 1993, at age 45, I took every mistake I or anyone I knew had ever made, and put them all in one character, an attorney named Richard Sullivan. Thomas Nelson, the first publisher, said that the manuscript was "annointed", and they immediately agreed to publish it. As soon as On The Edge came out, readers began telling us that the book had changed their lives! And now, all these years later, people still find us and email or leave a voice message that the story has deeply impacted how they view their family and friends. Mothers have given copies to their teenage daughters' friends. Businessmen have given copies to their associates. How incredible that God would use a very, very imperfect real estate guy, mentored for years by an Egyptian Christian parish priest (Michael Youssef), to touch the hearts of people all over the world. Only God can do that, and we give Him all the credit. And we hope that you enjoy the book and are as touched as we were in writing it.

The plot in the first half was very engaging, but then the second half came. I'm a big fan of Peretti's work, but this is not in the same league.Good points:-Hudson takes the concept of spiritual warfare presented in "This Present Darkness" and makes it very relatable. It's easy to understand how small steps and small decisions make all the difference in ones spiritual life and real life.- The majority of the book keeps a steady pace and the plot is very believable and engaging.Downsides:- Every character from teen or frat boy to business man to snazzy female realtor to youth pastor speaks with EXACTLY the same voice, and it is generally a very "written" type of language, not the way people speak.- The middle/second half of the book becomes a bit of a testimony parade. It's slow, and it's the least authentic part of the book. Nobody knows that many people who just want to have a proselytizing dinner party.I wanted to love this book because I love the message it holds, the theme, the potential for spreading truth. It could have been so much more, but the writing is just ok, not excellent.
Wow! What an amazing look at the spiritual realm as well as our choices here on earth. It reminded me a lot of the Frank Peretti books like "This Present Darkness". This book was written a while ago, so a few things seem outdated. Even so, it was a great reminder that even though it was written a while ago, that we still have similar issues today. Prayer is so important!Just a few other things to be aware of...I would love my daughter to read this, but there was a little too much 'adult' content in it. There wasn't anything overtly sexual, but it would not be appropriate for a 12 year old. Eventually I will let her read it. There was also some violence. There are two parts to this book. It is almost like two books in one, but it is too views of the same story. One with the power of prayer and one without.
I was fortunate enough to meet the author, F.Parker Hudson while at the Atlanta Airport. We ended up giving him a ride home from airport. He gave me a copy of this book. After reading this book, I was on my hands and knees, asking Jesus into my heart. This book was well-written, page turner book that gave a realistic approach to show how and why God is so important.like I said, this book is what brought me to my hands and knees, alone in my living room, crying and begging Jesus to enter my heart and in my life. I did the sinner's prayer without even knowing how. This was back in 1995. I was living in sin with an abusive boyfriend in Georgia at the time. Within the next couple of weeks I had my car packed, in August, without a/c and with my cat and litter box, where I drove home to San Diego, CA (my parents home). I had to drive over 2000 miles. With all the areas I could have broken down, I ended up breaking down near San Antonio, TX, where my recent x's aunt and uncle lived. I knew no one else in Texas so I called them for help. Not only did they get my car fixed, but they took me on the best camping trip I ever had.Think about it; God has His protecting hand on me. Out of all those miles, He made sure there was a safe place for me to break-down. God used this book to save me. Thank you, F. Parker Hudson! I pray the Lord keeps using your books to help bring other lost souls to Our most loving Lord.
What a fabulous book. I love the characters, Richard, Janet, Susan, Tommy, and the crew. Many of us never take into consideration the problems and issues we face in our every day lives and how they are heavily influenced by the choices we make. I loved the inside insight of how we face a battle every day we live. I appreciated the revelation that God and Satan constantly war for our souls. I am reminded that we are advised when making choices to always choose life. Life comes in the form of a never ending all forgiving God who gave himself for us simply because He loves us and all of our mess...Great read..Great author and can't wait to read his other books...
This novel is very much on the style of Frank Peretti's Out of Darkness but does not have quite the same impact.I found it a little formulaic without the gripping sense of foreboding and dramatic suspense as Peretti novels. However I believe it could be of great value to teens or parents of teens, and may well provide the power to dissuade teens from having sex by illustrating well how having intercourse as a teen changes everything in a relationship, resulting in entrapment and even unplanned pregnancy despite the pill. Herein lies the impact and value of On The Edge.
This is by far the best book I have ever read in my life, literally. This book in some ways changed my life and I purchased this copy for a friend. This is a Christian book, but surprisingly contains very graphic details of real life situations of sin, temptation, and other struggles. You will find yourself experiencing every single emotion from joy to pain in this book..it moves you and reminds you how our choices affect opus and those that we care about.,, religious or not, you will find yourself drawn to this book. I would like to see a movie based on this book, truly amazing.
A moving story of how God works in the lives of one family. The first half is what can happen without God and the second what did happen with God. It is emotional and detailed. You are drawn in to the drama of the many characters that are rich and evocative. If I were to say one thing about the book is Hudson does not maintain a consistent point of view which jars the reader and can be confusing as to where one is. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.
What if we had made different choices in our lives? We've all asked that question. This book gives us a chance to see how different our lives can be when we choose to follow God and let Him direct our path. The impact of that choice by Richard Sullivan in this book, gives the reader a glimpse of how our own choices can be used for God's glory or Satan's lies. This is the first book I've read by this author, and while I can't say it's the best book I've read, it is definitely one I would recommend to others. I will be looking at other books by this author. Thank you, Parker Hudson, for a good read.
